MANILA, Philippines – Livestock and pork products across the country can now be exported following the certification of the World Organization for Animal Health declaring the Philippines as free from the dreaded foot and mouth disease (FMD).
Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said the certification enabled the Philippines to finally export livestock meat pork products to nearby ASEAN and Asia-Pacific regions.
The accreditation was given last May 26 in Paris, France.
He said export negotiations with Singapore and Malaysia are ongoing while the Department of Agriculture is boosting its accreditation campaign on swine farms, abattoirs and meat processing establishments in Mindanao.
The country’s FMD-free status augured well for the domestic livestock industry, as raisers and meat processors can now freely transport their products in other countries, and will enhance their productivity in improving current livestock herd and swine population. (From Philippine Star)
This is good news for the goat industry in the Philippines as we can see unimpeded flow of goats throughout the whole archipelago.
