As I mentioned on earlier topic, land preparation was the first step that we did at Oyibo’s Goat Farm (OGF). Part of it is the installation of irrigation system. At OGF we are using three types of irrigation, sprinkler system, semi-drip & drip irrigation. The three has its own advantages and disadvantages. Cost of sprinkler system is minimal compared to drip irrigation, but 20-30% is lost due to evaporation. Drip irrigation is more efficient because evaporation is almost zero but the cost is high since you have to install a lot of lateral lines and emitter. Semi-drip is very economical, you can irrigate your plants directly but you have no control of the flow of water unlike using drip emitter you have plenty of choices of how much flow to irrigate for each individual plants (commercial drip emitters has 4 liters/hr. 7liters/hr. etc.) Our irrigation system 6.5 hp gasoline engine as our power train Mechanical pump (7000liters/hr.) Main manifold divided into different zone Sub manifold controlled manually to supply water on different lateral lines Gasoline engine coupled to a mechanical pump. Line manifolds connected to different zones. The sub-manifold connected to different lateral lines. Our drip irrigation using a pressure compensated emmiterOur semi-drip irrigating newly planted indigoferaOur sprinkler systemBy proper irrigation even with El Nino a healthy and vigor forages is guaranted

Farmer Nestor, you should teach us more in the proper use of drip, sprinklers in our pasture area. One draw back we face at AGF is the high cost of electricity we are paying Meralco.http://raisinggoat.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=goats&action=modifypost&thread=31&post=154

Sir,
Queries po sa Irrigation System nyo:
1) How much did you invest? 2) Gaano kalaki per zone (in sqm)? 3) Looks expensive po siya ... is there a way na mura?
TIA!

Hi Mz, 1. Almost 100k but in the long run you will save a lot 2. You can have as many zone as you like, but each lateral lines should not exceed 120 feet. 3. Yes it is expensive since we don't have natural spring. Sir, Queries po sa Irrigation System nyo: 1) How much did you invest? 2) Gaano kalaki per zone (in sqm)? 3) Looks expensive po siya ... is there a way na mura? TIA!

Sir Nestor,
I agree with you na kailangan ng planuhin ang pag gagamiting irrigation system para sa mga legumes and forage. Ang tanong po kasi ay :

Hi Arnel, What type, and how much depends on you. I also don't have any knowledge of company or individuals who can do the job in Batangas. 2. Sorry Arktgoat I can't answer your question since I don't know what fruit bearing trees you are planting. I suggest have your soil tested for NPK, ph, and acidity. Im also on the process of planting fruit bearing trees on the perimeters of my goat farm. Can you please advise what is the best distance between trees for them to absord and get benefits from the nutrients of the soil.

Hi Jun, The company that supply the Taiwan made semi-drip is just a supplier they don't do installation job.
Drip Irrigation: I am using Gardena brand (a bit expensive) but it can be done DIY. I can help you if you want.
To give you an idea here's a short video:
